Lares trek known as a “cultural trek” offers you an insight into the mystical Andean world, and stunning views of mountains, glaciers, lagoons, and valleys. Along the way you will pass through different Quechua communities where you can interact with locals and learn about their ancient customs!
Although the Inca trail to Machu Picchu is the only trek that leads you into Machu Picchu itself, our Lares trek includes a short train journey from Ollantaytambo to Aguas calientes and a guided tour of Machu Picchu as well. We will ensure you have an amazing experience!

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco - Huaran - Cancha Cancha.
Very early in the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel and driven for about 2 hours to Huaran (9,180 ft/2,800 masl), a beautiful village surrounded by green mountains and one side of the sacred Urubamba River in the valley of the Incas; upon our arrival we will meet our wranglers and horses, we start our adventure to Lares accompanied by our Guide, Cook, Wranglers and horses. We climb up out of the valley through an uphill trail beside Cancha Cancha stream, along the way you will enjoy the beautiful views of the crops, mountains and lagoons.  
After a 5-hour hike we arrive in Cancha Cancha community, where our Cook will have our energetic lunch ready, then we will have time to rest and interact with the local farmers, our tents will be set up here for our first night. (hiking time: approx 6 hours).

Day 2: Cancha Cancha - Quiswarani.
After a hot breakfast, we start our 3-hour hike uphill to Pachacutec Pass (4,700 meters), the highest point of the trek but worth reaching. From the top of the pass we will have spectaculars views of Lake Pachacutec, the snow-peaked mountain of Pitusiray and the valleys. After having pictures from Pachacutec pass we will continue hiking for 1 hour and stop to have our delicious energetic lunch. After a short break, we continue our 2-hour hike downhill to Quiswarani Quechua community (3,700 meters), where our tents will be set up. (hiking time: approx 6 hours).

Day 3: Quiswarani - Cuncani - Lares (hot springs) - Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes.
After an early hot breakfast, we have another 3-hour hike uphill to Huillquijasa Pass (4,200 meters) along the way we will have amazing views of beautiful turquoise lakes and Colquecruz snow-peaked mountain. After reaching the Pass we continue hiking downhill Cuncani community (3,700 meters) located in the valley of the same name. Finally we arrive at Lares hot springs where we can relax in the warm waters.
After lunch, you will be driven to Ollantaytambo to board your late afternoon train to Aguas calientes.
Upon arrival, you will be accommodated in your hostel.
Evening:  Overnight in Aguas Calientes. (hiking time: approx 7 hours)

Day 4: Machu Picchu Tour/Train to Cusco.
Morning, you will baord the bus to Machu Picchu, where you will have a guided tour of this impressive Inca city and learn about the history of this site, who lived here, how it was discovered in modern times and why the Spaniards never found it.   You will have some insight into the various features of this sacred city and have free time to really enjoy yourself alone in this spectacularly located site, an unforgettable experience that will stay with you forever!
Afternoon: Tourist train Aguas Calientes – Cusco.
On your arrival at Cusco train station you will be met by our representative and transferred to your Hotel.

Trek price does not include:

International air fares to Peru, airport taxes, meals other than those specified in your itinerary, sleeping bag (If you need sleeping bags please contact us) personal porter, personal expenses, personal insurance, and tips.
